Horsepower, the acclaimed four-part docu-series following trainer Andrew Balding and jockey Oisin Murphy, will be screened in Australia next week as part of TV channel Racing.com’s Royal Ascot coverage.

Produced by Equine Productions and Lorton Entertainment, the four episodes of the docu-series will be broadcast prime-time ahead of Racing.com’s live coverage from Ascot, with episode one scheduled to premiere at 9.15pm on Tuesday. The series charts the fortunes of Balding and Murphy in the months leading up to Royal Ascot with the final episode capturing all the drama of the week.
With four Australian trained horses entered at the meeting, interest in the Royal meeting from down under is expected to be high. Furthermore, one of the equine stars of Horsepower, the Group 1 winning mare Alcohol Free, is now based in Australia following her purchase by Yuesheng Zhang of Yulong Investments for 5.4 million guineas at the Tattersalls December Sale.
Horsepower was launched on Amazon Prime in the UK and Ireland in September last year. To date, the series has been very well received, earning a 5-star viewer rating on Prime and scoring 9/10 on IMDb.
Dave James, who co-produced and directed Horsepower with John Maxse, said: “We are excited about Australian viewers getting the chance to watch Horsepower and delighted that Racing.com have aligned it with their coverage of this year’s Royal Ascot. The two should complement each other and it’s great that the series will be broadcast in a prime-time slot.
“The feedback from racing fans has been very positive, but what has been even more gratifying is the response from non-racing viewers, many of whom have found it to be a fascinating and compelling introduction to the sport.”
Australia is the latest territory to take Horsepower and the deal with Racing.com, which broadcasts on free-to-air channels as well as via Foxtel and Kayo, was brokered by HBA Media, operating on behalf of Horsepower’s makers, Lorton Entertainment and Equine Productions.
